Q: Sometimes the threads slip off the hair and it doesn’t pull. What do I do if the Threader LUX is not pulling the hair completely?

A: The threads may not be grabbing the hair because hair is usually coated with a protective layer of oil from the skin. Therefore it is essential to coat the skin and threading area with the Chalk (included in the Deluxe Threader Kit) to maximize the effectiveness of the threading system. Similar to the way a gymnast uses chalk so as not too slip off the bar, the Chalk powder should also be used to prevent the threads from slipping off hairs. The Chalk, which is made of rice powder, is not the same as baby powder or any other loose powders because these contain mineral and glycerin oils, which will not absorb the oils from the hairs and skin like the Chalk.

Also, you will want to make sure you are pulling in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Please refer to the illustrations in the Quick Guide insert, DVD or our website for reference. Be sure the threads are still tightly fastened in the arms of the Threader LUX. You can remove one end of the white thread piece and wind it again to tighten the threads if needed. Note: The tighter the threads are wound, the shorter and finer the hairs the threads will grab.

Q: What do I do if the threads get stuck and the arms of the Threader LUX and are not retracting effectively?

A: The same way a threading professional resets their fingers to move the twists of the threads back in place, the Threader LUX’s arms will need to be reset due to the tension of the technique. To reset the tension of the trigger button and threads on the Threader LUX, hold the two shorter arms (the arms on the left side when trigger button is facing away from the body) with your fingers and push them together to reset the twisted threads to the middle. You can reset the Threader LUX whenever the trigger button does not spring back.

Another way of using the Threader LUX on the upper lip and chin area without using the trigger button is by taking the arms of the Threader LUX and holding them with fingers on both hands and placing them on each pair of arms. Then push one pair of arms together and then push other pair of arms together while releasing the first pair of arms. Take turns back and forth by pushing and releasing the pairs of arms (like a seesaw) while pushing the threads into to skin to glide back and forth to pull hairs.

Q: Can I rotate the Threader LUX around and use it upside down as well?

A: Getting the hang of any new product requires time to get used to the way it works. So feel free to push down on the trigger button with your four fingers or with your thumb. Find ways of using the product that is comfortable and easy for you. You may find that you use the Threader LUX better in certain areas upside down. The best part about the Threader LUX is that there is really no wrong way to use it as long as the threads are grabbing the hairs.

Q: What is threading and where did it originate?

A: Threading is an age-old method of hair removal using natural cotton threads to gently remove hairs from the roots.  Some say it derived from India, while others say it originated in Middle or Eastern Asia.

Q: Where can I find the Threader LUX?

A: You can purchase it directly through our website or at various retailers throughout the world.  Ask your local salon and request Karmissie’s Threader LUX by name!

Q: What are the benefits of threading versus other methods of hair removal?

A: The benefits of threading verses other methods include:

• Exceptionally gentle and ideal for people with sensitive skin

• More thorough in removing all types of hairs from all skin types without irritating the skin

• Does not involve the use of harsh chemical ingredients which may cause hyper-pigmentation and scarring

• Consistently pulls hairs in one direction preventing ingrown hairs as opposed to inconsistent clamp tweezing tools

• Superior to waxing with no damage to the skin from heat and tugging of skin

• A more natural look is achieved without the forehead or sideburns looking “stenciled”

• A less expensive alternative than laser hair removal which can be costly and involves multiple sessions for permanent results

Q: Would the Threader LUX be something I can use on my face?

A:  Yes.  The skin on the face and neck are thinner than the rest of the body, thus making the skin more prone to irritation.  Since this device is considered ideal for people with sensitive skin, the Threader LUX is suitable to be used on the face.

Q: I have sensitive skin, would this be a good system for me?

A: Threading is a superior method of hair removal because it uses cotton threads to roll out hairs.  This is the safest way to remove hair from the roots without using heat or chemicals, which can also cause heat rashes and hyper-pigmentation. This is the ONLY method of epilation that is gentle enough to use on skin even after a chemical peel treatment or with use of retinol products.

Q: I am currently using skincare products with active ingredients containing acids.  Will this hair removal system conflict with my skin care regimen?

A: Dermatologists who know of threading recommend this method of hair removal because it DOES NOT conflict with medical grade skincare products and can be used on people with sensitive skin even after more invasive skin treatments.

Q: Is threading painful?

A: Threading may cause some discomfort for sensitive users, as all epilatory (removing hairs from roots) systems do.  As part of the Deluxe Threader Kit, we have included our Feel Less Lotion, which helps to diffuse the feeling of discomfort if you are more sensitive to the process.

Q: I have “peach fuzz” on my face and would like to know if threading will remove the fine hairs?

A: Threading targets even the finest hairs by swiftly gliding on the skin and rolling hairs out from the root.  The threads roll out even the shortest of hairs directly over the skin’s surface by springing off its natural elasticity to remove hair.  In addition to removing stubborn “peach fuzz”, it is able to remove previously ingrown hairs, while also buffing the skin.

Q: How often do I have to use this product?

A: Every individual possesses unique hair growth patterns.  On average, hair grows in two cycles every three weeks.  We recommend you to use the Threader LUX at least every three weeks to maintain a smooth appearance.  This regimen will promote slower hair re-growth patterns and within a short period of time hairs will grow in noticeably thinner.

Q: Can men use this product?

A: It is not recommended for men’s use because their skin is too thin and their hair is too coarse. The follicles in beard hair are deep-rooted which may lead to infection when using an epilation method.

Q: Does the Threader LUX work effectively on underarm hair and the bikini area?

A: The Threader LUX can effectively remove hairs on the body including underarms and the bikini areas.  When working on these areas, we recommend that you hold the skin taught and target those areas with caution, similar to how you would by tweezing.

Q: How often do I need to replace the threads?

A: The disposable refill threads used with the Threader LUX are designed for single uses to achieve the highest level of hygiene for hair removal.  Our threads are a custom proprietary blend made of superior quality thread.  With each new pair of threads, you can thread as much hairs until they become overly stretched out or break due to the natural fibers of the material.

Q: Is this a good system for a teenager?

A: The Threader LUX is suitable for teenagers because it is all natural and will not harm younger skin. The sooner you start the threading process, the sooner you can address your hair growth concerns and the sooner you can achieve maximum results.  However, instructions should be followed carefully when using the Threader LUX. Application by a teenager should be conducted with adult supervision.

Q: Can I use this product to shape my eyebrows?

A: The Threader LUX can be used to shape eyebrows although, it is easier to use the Threader LUX to clean up hair around the brows versus precisely replicating the service of a skilled technician.  As with any new product, a level of comfort in using of the product needs to be achieved.  When you advance using the Threader LUX and understand the technicalities of how threading works, you can then use it to shape eyebrows in the comfort of your own home.

Q: I usually like to tweeze because I can target individual hairs.  Is threading a faster method of hair removal compared to tweezing?

A: The threads wind around individual hairs and run against each other, gliding on the skin to lift hairs off in rows instead of one hair at a time.  Because it removes hairs in rows, the technique is considered more efficient and less time-consuming than tweezing.  For more precise removal, aim the Threader LUX at the point where the two thread pieces cross to target the individual hairs.

Q: What is the Chalk and how do I use it?

A: The Chalk is a condensed block of rice powder used to make hairs more visible on the skin.  The Chalk also absorbs the skin’s natural oils making the surface of the skin more effective for the fibers of the threads to glide on.  Apply an ample layer of the Chalk, (until the powder appears white on the skin), to the desired area.  Wash off the excess amount with lukewarm or cold water after threading and apply the Closer lotion.

Q: Will the Threader LUX be difficult for me to operate on myself?

A: Once considered only a service provided by trained technicians at a salon, the Threader LUX is a revolutionary product that brings threading to your home.  With any hair removing system, it takes time to get comfortable.  However, the Threader LUX’s unique angles are crafted to be user-friendly when used on oneself.  By following the instructions on our website and video, you will be able to start threading immediately with ease.

Q: I have heard that removing hair from the face will make it grow in thicker. Is this true?

A: This is the most frequently asked question. Hair growth patterns on the face can significantly change due to various factors such as hormonal changes from vitamins, nutritional supplements, pregnancy, menopause, stress, environmental climate changes, and aging.  However, threading is a time-proven method of hair removal that has demonstrated its effectiveness in eliminating hair growth, while stimulating blood circulation in the skin and removing excess dead skin cells.  Threading also slows down hair growth because it removes hairs from the root.  Hairs only grow in thicker when shaved or cut.  Over time, hair removal using the Threader LUX leads to slower hair re-growth patterns while maintaining the skin for optimal health.

Q: I often get ingrown hairs when waxing.  Is it also a common occurrence when threading?

A: Ingrown hairs are caused by the direction in which the hairs are removed from the roots.  Hairs then grow in a coil under the skin creating a bump on the surface.  Threading is a method that eliminates the occurrence of ingrown hairs because the technique rolls hairs out in the same direction every time.  In addition, using the Threader LUX on a consistent basis also helps remove dead surface skin cells, promoting faster cellular renewal and prevents dead skin cells from clogging pores.  Ingrown hairs are also prone to develop from inflammations of the exposed pores after hair removal.  As a result, we formulated the Closer lotion to prevent irritation of the skin and to “seal” off the exposed pores from surface bacteria after the hair removal process.

Q: What if I miss some hairs.  Can I go over the same area?

A: The best part about using the Threader LUX is that you do not need to be in front of a mirror to see the hairs. You can use the Threader LUX all over the skin multiple times until the hairs have all been removed.  Because threading breaks up the line patterns that hairs grow in, you will always have a natural look after threading with no obvious lines.

Q: How often do you have to change the threads and where can you buy more threads? How long do they last?

A: Each set of threads should last up to an entire face threading session and does not need to be changed out each time if you use on clean skin (no makeup). The threads will continue to pull effectively until all of the fibers completely wear off. Be sure to undo the end of the white thread and wind up 1-2 more times as the natural fibers of the threads loosen up with use. The tighter the threads are wound, the finer the hairs it will catch and pull out. Unlike waxing, with threading, you can go over the same area on the skin multiple times until all unwanted hairs are removed without causing damage to the skin.

Q: If a woman breaks out due to waxing, is her skin likely to respond to the Threader LUX in the same way, or would the Threader LUX help with this?

There are a few factors that contribute to people breaking out from hair removal, especially waxing. The skin on the face is more sensitive and thinner than on the body. It can easily be damaged by heat, pulling, and excessive tugging. When hairs are removed from its roots, the exposed pores are often irritated (especially common if hair removal is not done on a regular basis) and if the pores are not "closed off" right away with some form of barrier (such as lotion) or cold water, it will be prone to infection.

Not only is threading the most ideal method of hair removal for sensitive skin, but it also pulls hairs in one direction and exfoliates the skin while rolling hairs out from their roots. Karmissie has also developed an anti-inflamatory lotion that is FDA compliant called the CLOSER and is included in our Deluxe Kit to help prevent the skin from breakouts post-epilation. The CLOSER's main ingredient is derived from a natural plant extract that soothes the skin and shields open pores from irritation. We recommend that cold water is used to wash the skin after threading.
